Ryanair commenced operating to Milan Bergamo in 2002 and since then the airline has grown operations from three Boeing 737-800s to today 23 Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-8-200 ‘Gamechanger aircraft serving 116 domestic and international destinations. The airline recently opened routes to Beni Mellal, Biarritz, Castellón, Dubrovnik, Olbia, Sarajevo, Skiathos and Salerno. Today, Bergamo is Ryanair’s third largest base in its entire network.
The opening of the base contributed significantly to the growth of Milan Bergamo Airport. Over the last 22 years, Ryanair has invested extensively in its presence and operations at Milan Bergamo establishing training centers for engineers and flight crew, as well as five MRO Hangars.
Ryanair Italy Country Manager Mauro Bolla, said “As Italy’s No. 1 airline and Milan Bergamo’s number 1 airline, Ryanair is thrilled to celebrate 22 years of operations in Milan Bergamo. Ryanair has grown to carry 140 million passengers to/from Milan Bergamo. Since we first landed in Milan Bergamo 22 years ago, we have grown to become Italy’s preferred airline. As a result, we understand how important it is to connect with your loved ones, which is why we are committed to growing further in Italy in the coming years.”
SABCO President Giovanni Sanga, said “The milestone of 140 million passengers transported to and from Milan Bergamo Airport tells the story of a successful partnership, which has allowed us to propose to the air transport market a commercial and operational model that has become a reference for airport managers and travellers. A great result, the one achieved by Ryanair, to which we are proud to have contributed more than others, because it is accompanied by the investment programmes that SACBO has produced over two decades to make the airport and service infrastructures cutting-edge, in terms of systems and technology, and increasingly suited to the needs of operators and passengers.”
