PLAY Airlines has restored connectivity between Dublin and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) with the launch of its new four times weekly Dublin to Keflavik service operated by Airbus A320neo and Airbus A3321neo aircraft. PLAY operates Keflavik to Baltimore daily, with a 2.30 hour connection time westbound and 1.30 hour eastbound connection time in Keflavik.
On Thursday 28th April TF-PLB Airbus A321-251N msn 7945 operated first flight FPY880/1 (ATC Callsign FPY13Z/L).
Aer Lingus previously operate Dublin-Shannon-Baltimore three times weekly using Airbus A330-200 aircraft from 2000 to 2001 with the route being suspended following 11 September terrorist attacks, resuming service in March 2003 until it was suspended in 2006.
DAA CEO Dalton Philips stated “We welcome this inaugural flight from Dublin to Reykjavik. We are excited to see that Dublin Airport will enjoy increased connectivity to and from Iceland with PLAY. The increased access to and from Reykjavik shows how attractive the tourism opportunities are at both ends of this attractive new route.”
PLAY Airlines CEO Birgir Jónsson stated “It is so thrilling to have commenced our operations to Dublin. The roots between Icelanders and Irelanders are so strong and you feel it every time we get a chance to meet up. So today is big day of celebration for us at PLAY to have arrived to our good friends in Dublin. We see a lot of potential for this route between Dublin and Iceland and of course to fly passengers between Dublin and North America.
PLAY plans to grow its Keflavik Hub to 27 destinations in Europe and North America operating a single type low cost business model, with a fleet of 6 Airbus A320neo family aircraft including 2 A320neo’s , 3 A321neo’s and 1 Airbus A321neo-LR with 1.2 million seats annually.
