Cologne-based Germanwings has received two Airbus A319s in new livery following painting of D-AGWS (24th December) and D-AGWT (19th December) by Eirtech Aviation Ltd in Shannon Airport. The new ‘Germanwings’ as of the 1st of January 2013 includes Lufthansa’s decentralized European routes not operating from it’s Frankfurt or Munich hubs.
As of from 1st July 2013 ‘new Germanwings’ will be officially launched with the aim to be ‘smart, dynamic and innovative service’ rolling out a completely new brand and product concept allowing passengers to fly ‘à la carte’ according to their individual needs.
The new product concept ranges from budget, no-frills travel to a more refined passenger experience with more advantages and extra services, the new fare structure has three brackets ‘Best’ , ‘Smart’ and ‘Basic’ with differing services provided in each bracket (Airmiles, Baggage, Catering, Seating Options and Flexibility). The airline plans to develop its mobile booking and information systems to sell directly to the consumer with lead-in fares starting at €33 one-way.
Germanwings operates a fleet of 32 Airbus A319s and will acquire 29 A319s and A320s from Lufthansa and assumes fleet management of Eurowings 23 Bombardier CRJ900s.
Germanwings operates a seasonal summer service on Cologne-Dublin route operating four times weekly from Sunday 31st March to 26th October 2013, also the New Germanwings presentation (6th December 2012) identifies Ireland West Airport Knock as an destination.
