Northern Ireland’s largest airline easyJet announced it is expanding its network with the introduction of flights to and from City of Derry Airport for the first time.
easyJet will be offering two new services from City of Derry to Edinburgh and Liverpool from 4 November 2024, with both routes operating twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays throughout the year. The new routes will provide stronger domestic connectivity and serve demand for domestic connectivity between Northern Ireland and key cities across the UK, serving business, leisure and VFR markets.
City of Derry Airport Managing Director Steve Frazer, said “It is an incredible day for the City of Derry Airport team and a day that should be celebrated for the entire Northwest region. easyJet brings an undeniable level of brand credibility, customer confidence, not to mention great value fares for travellers across our catchment area. Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Lilian Seenoi Barr said “This is excellent news for the airport and a major boost for our customers. The announcement of these two routes is a major boost to the local airport and a welcome addition to the Airport’s existing routes. This is a very welcome boost for both the Airport and the wider Northwest region and a direct air link with Edinburgh and Liverpool is hugely important for the economic development of the region. “I want to congratulate easyJet on their new venture and thank the airport management and staff for all the work in securing this contract. Easyjet has significant investment in Northern Ireland basing nine Airbus A320 family aircraft in Belfast International and operates to and from Belfast City Airport. The City of Derry Airport becomes the carrier’s 22nd Airport in the UK.
