Ethiopian Airlines took delivery of a new Boeing 737-8 MAX on February 16, 2025. The aircraft, registered ET-BBA (MSN 66151), arrived at Dublin Airport at 12:34 local time as flight ETH9201, having flown direct from Paine Field.
The next day, the aircraft departed Dublin at 09:39 local time directly to Addis Ababa, operating under the same flight callsign, ETH9201.
The aircraft was allocated to Russian carrier Ural Airlines, subsequently not delivered due to US sanctions related to the Ukraine invasion. The aircraft arrived in an all-white livery, with the rudder and sharklets painted in Ural Airlines’ colours, pending a full repaint by Ethiopian Airlines.
According to Planespotters.net, Ethiopian Airlines is set to receive three additional aircraft that were also intended for Ural Airlines: ET-BBB (msn 66150), ET-BBC (msn 66152), and ET-BBD (msn 66147).
