In an Linkedin post International Airlines Group (IAG) announced in 2023 it bought approximately 12% of the global supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
A recent Sustainable Aviation Outlook report released by Sustainability In The Air revealed International Airlines Group (IAG) as the third largest volume user of SAF globally, behind Air France-KLM Group and Lufthansa.
Aer Lingus has committed to powering 10% of flights using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2030 and has signed multiple agreements as part of IAG Group to buy SAF from Aemetis Inc, Gevo Inc, Repsol and Twelve.
International Airlines Group (IAG) became the first global airline group to sign up for e-SAF (Twelve), made from made from CO2, water and renewable energy, which does not face feedstock limitations, has a high degree of emissions reduction versus conventional jet fuel and has a relatively low land and water-use footprint.
SAF can power aircraft exactly like traditional jet fuel but emit 70-80% lower net lifecycle carbon intensity less carbon dioxide during the lifecycle of the fuel, from production through to its use, and it requires no changes to aircraft or delivery infrastructure.
