Irish carrier Aer Lingus has order a further two Airbus A320neo aircraft according to Airbus orders an deliveries data released on 30 November. This increases the carrier order book to total of six aircraft with two to be delivered in 2023 and two in 2024, replacing existing Airbus A320ceo as they reach end of economic life.
Aer Lingus attended Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications Committee on 14th December. Chief Strategy and Planning Officer Mr. Reid Moody stated during discussions that “All of the new aircraft we will receive over the next three years will go onto Heathrow. That has economic benefits in fuel and especially noise reduction because the new generation aircraft command a lower expense with regard to the Heathrow landing charges. Therefore all of our new fleet will go onto Heathrow.”
In October International Airlines Group (IAG) has confirmed an order for 37 additional A320neo aircraft, following shareholder approval. The A320neo Family incorporates the very latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklets, which together deliver at least 20% fuel burn and CO2 emissions reduction.
Airbus aims to achieve a production rate of 50 A320-family aircraft per month by the end of this year and still targets a ramp-up to 75 per month in 2025 “to satisfy customer demand”.
