A unique competitive advantage at the heart of Ireland’s Aviation industry is collaboration, creating a value supply chain benefiting the Irish economy. Britannica’s encyclopedia defines collaboration as “To work jointly with others or together especially in an intellectual endeavor.”
Ireland has achieved collaboration on a major scale in the aviation industry as a center for excellence for aircraft leasing companies and has cluster of Maintenance & Repair Organization (MRO’s) lead by Dublin Aerospace, Eirtech Aviation, Lufthansa Aeromotive, Shannon Aerospace, TEAM Accessories Ltd, Transaero Engineering Ireland Ltd.
These MRO’s specialize in the fields of aircraft painting, base maintenance, component repair, design and engineering, engine overhaul, aircraft management and technical companies supported by the regulatory framework of the Irish Aviation Authority.
The ability to provide a wide range of products and services in the aircraft supply chain coped with ample availability of aircraft parking at Dublin and Shannon Airports, to be a one-stop location for re-delivery of aircraft.
The collaborative model in the industry has been noted with the recent arrival of a Boeing 767 at Shannon Airport.
On 20th September Dublin based Santos Dumont the aviation technical consultancy and asset manager, announced it won a contract to redeliver eight aircraft on behalf of LOT Polish Airlines.
On 24th September SP-LPB Boeing 767-35D(ER) construction number 27902 LOT Polish Airlines was ferried Warsaw Chopin to Shannon Airport for Shannon Aerospace on end of lease check on return to lessor.
The aircraft re-emerged from Shannon Aerospace on 26th October under Irish aircraft registration EI-FDI and towed to the Eirtech Aviation hangar rolling out in Spanish Airline Privilege Style colours named “Eduardo Barreiros” on 5th November.
The aircraft is currently parked in the center of field at Shannon Airport awaiting re-delivery.
There is immense opportunities to grow this business in Ireland, establishing a new International Aviation Services Centre (IASC) at Shannon Airport is a platform to develop the business. The new Irish Aviation Policy White Paper to be published in the new year should further incentivise growth of the sector to benefit the economy and create employment in the aviation sector.
