Mesa Air Group has acquired six former Alitalia CityLiner Bombardier Aerospace CRJ900 aircraft on lease from Irish aircraft lessors APC and Challey Ltd. Alitalia Cityliner withdrew it’s CRJ900 fleet from service in 2012 as part of its restructuring process.
APC and Challey Ltd ferried the aircraft from Rome Fiumicino to Dublin in basic Alitalia Cityline colours for paperwork purposes in preparation for new leases with Mesa Air Group (Mesa Airlines).
These aircraft will add to its fleet of 51 planes under contract for regional flying with American Airlines Group Inc.
In a statement Mesa Airlines disclosed the lease term agreement covering the additional six aircraft is eight years.
Mesa Chairman and CEO Jonathan Ornstein said “We are delighted to add these six CRJ-900 aircraft with our partners at American Airlines. With almost 40 aircraft scheduled for delivery over the next several years, Mesa is now the fastest growing airline in the country providing exciting opportunities and long-term job security for our people.”
According to FAA registry a number of these aircraft are registrations are classed as assigned.
