David Collenette |
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) are delighted to have The Honourable David Collenette, PC, LLD, FCILT, who was Transport Minister for Canada and oversaw Canada’s response to the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States speak for our members on Tuesday, 1st May 2018.
On the morning of September 11 more than 500 planes with an estimated 75,000 people on board were en route to North America. The U.S. Government made the decision to close its airspace with the possibility of planes being shot down by the U.S. Air Force. Under the Aeronautics Act the Transport Minister is the only person with the statutory authority to issue emergency orders in unprecedented situations like this.
As Minister for Transport David was responsible for overseeing the landing of 229 planes, most from Europe, that were refused entry to U.S. airspace on the day.
“It is fantastic to have such an esteemed Fellow of the CILT organisation speak for our members and stakeholders” says Mick Curran, CEO of CILT Ireland. “We are looking forward to hearing this gripping and truly interesting story that changed the course of aeronautical history, and that shocked the world”.
David speaks to CILT Ireland on Tuesday, 1 May from 5pm to 7pm in the Grand Canal Hotel, Dublin 4.
