Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair made history Sunday 31 March operating its first domestic flights in Morocco as part of $1.4 billion investment in the country, launching from Marrakech (RAK) base to Oujda (OUD) RYR6740/1 and Tetuan (TTU) RYR6768/9 using EI-DHG Boeing 737-8AS Ryanair DAC msn 33576.
Ryanair plans to carry 5 million passengers operating 175 routes to and from Morocco in Summer 2024 including 35 new routes (11 domestic and 35 international) basing 14 aircraft (2 Agadir and 2 Tangier, 2 Fez and 7 Marrakesh).
Interestingly Ryanair’s domestic flights would be classified as ICAO Ninth Freedom of The Air stating “The right or privilege of transporting cabotage traffic of the granting State on a service performed entirely within the territory of the granting State (also known as a Ninth Freedom Right or “stand alone” cabotage).”
Ryanair operates two from Dublin to Morocco serving Agadir and Marrakech twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays, using 189 seat Boeing 737-800 and 197 seat Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft respectively.
