Irish budget carrier Ryanair has launched a new route between Dublin and Nimes operating twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 29 March to 29 October using a mix Boeing 737-800 and new Boeing 737-8200 aircraft.
The ingural service on Tuesday 29th March was operated by EI-EVL Boeing 737-8AS msn 40299 receiving a water canon salute from the airport fire service on arrival. The Saturday flight on 2nd April was operated by Ryanair’s new ‘Gamechanger’ aircraft EI-HEY Boeing 737-8200 msn 62307.
President of Nimes Métropole Franck Proust stated “France is Ireland’s closest European neighbour and, with the launch of this new route, we are celebrating a reciprocal friendship between our two countries sharing the same core values.”
Ryanair DAC’s CEO, Eddie Wilson stated “We are pleased to announce our largest ever flight schedule at Dublin Airport this summer. This extensive programme will see Ryanair operate over 900 weekly flights to over 120 destinations, giving inbound tourism a much-needed boost while also giving Irish consumers the widest choice of great destinations this summer.”
The airport would be keen interest to aviation enthusiasts as an operational French Navy air base and The Securite Civile base fleet includes twelve Canadair CL415, nine S-2T Trackers, three Beechcraft 200 and two DHC-8-400Q MR. MRO organization Sabena technics is based offering storage and maintenance services to airlines for many different aircraft types.

Nimes is a city in Occitanie between the Cévennes and the Camargue in the heart of Grande Provence. Nîmes is all about contrast. Two of the numerous Roman gems to be found here; there are also splendid mansions and grand gardens, notably the Jardins de la Fontaine which were laid out on a Roman site in the 18th century. Markets line the palm-fringed streets and the city comes alive with festivals in the summer months: the Feria takes place in June and September while the music festival runs through June and July.
One of Nîmes cultural highlights is the Musée de la Romanité, one of France’s major contemporary architectural projects showcasing 5,000 works dating from 7th century BC to the 14th century, and central to celebrating the city’s rich classical heritage.
Ryanair operates 12 routes from Dublin to France including Bordeaux, Carcassonne, Grenoble, La Rochelle, Lourdes, Marseille, Nantes, Nice, Paris Beauvais, Rodez, Toulouse and Tours Loire Valley.
