MIAT Mongolian Airlines, the flag carrier of Mongolia, has taken delivery of its first Irish Registered Boeing 787-9 on 11 August, on lease from AerCap, and the second aircraft is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2024.
The aircraft is operated in a three cabin configuration of 292 seats with 30 business, 36 extra legroom economy and 226 economy , powered by GEnx-1B engines.
According to Planespotters.net EI-MGL Boeing 787-9 ms 60326 MIAT Mongolian Airlines delivered Haikou Meilan International to Ulaanbaatar International Airport on 11 August former registered as B-20AF operated by Chinese carrier Suparna Airlines.
The carrier stated “This is an important milestone for MIAT Mongolian Airlines aiming for an expansion after the Covid-19 lockdowns, during which the airline had downsized its fleet from 8 to 5 and is now in the process of expanding.”
MIAT is planning to operate the aircraft on its routes to Frankfurt, Istanbul and Incheon with an eventual operation to the U.S.A, with a second Boeing 787-9 to be leased from AerCap for delivery in 2024Q1.
