Cork Airport’s scheduled ski services kicked off on Saturday, December 21, as the airport unveils direct, scheduled Aer Lingus flights to Lyon, Munich, and a weekly charter service to Salzburg, making it easier than ever for skiers from across the South of Ireland to access some of Europe’s premier ski destinations.
The winter schedule is designed to meet the growing demand for winter sports travel, providing seamless access to some of the most renowned ski resorts in the Swiss, Bavarian, and French Alps.
Cork Airport Managing Director, Niall MacCarthy, highlighted the importance of the winter sports market, saying, “Winter sports are a growing and important travel market segment, and here at Cork Airport, we’re delighted to service this market. Ski holidays are unique, and those that ski love all that goes with the ski experience. Start and return from your ski holiday this winter with all of the convenience and friendliness of Cork Airport.”
The newly introduced services provide direct access to some of the most sought-after ski resorts in Europe. From Salzburg, skiers can reach top Austrian resorts like St. Johann, Bad Gastein, Zell am See, Kitzbuhel, and Schladming, all within a two-hour transfer. Munich, another key destination, offers access to the famous ski towns of Mayrhofen and St. Anton, both just a short three-hour drive away. Lyon, the gateway to the French Alps, opens up access to renowned resorts such as Tignes-Val d’Isère, Val Thorens, and La Plagne.
The stunning Alpine regions of the Swiss, Bavarian, and French Alps are home to some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes and diverse ski terrains. From the high-altitude glaciers of Zermatt in Switzerland to the expansive slopes of Les Trois Vallées in France, these areas offer world-class skiing for all levels. Skiers can also look forward to luxurious resorts, charming Alpine villages, and a lively après-ski culture that is as much a part of the experience as the slopes themselves.
Looking ahead, MacCarthy also expressed hope for expanding the winter offerings: “Should these routes prove successful, we hope to offer even more ski options for intrepid skiers in the winter ahead.”
