Aer Lingus operated its first Airbus A320neo service to Ireland West Airport Knock on Thursday 18 May. The aircraft EI-NSB Airbus A320-251N msn 10786 operated Dublin-London Heathrow-Ireland West Airport-London Heathrow-Dublin operating EIN156/161 and EIN915/6 respectively.
The Airbus A320neo aircraft is set to become the mainstay on London Heathrow to Ireland West Airport route in the years ahead as Aer Lingus Chief Strategy and Planning Officer Mr. Reid Moody stated during Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications Committee on 14th December 2022 that “All of the new aircraft we will receive over the next three years will go onto Heathrow. That has economic benefits in fuel and especially noise reduction because the new generation aircraft command a lower expense with regard to the Heathrow landing charges. Therefore all of our new fleet will go onto Heathrow.”
The Airbus A320neo delivers up to 20% reduction in fuel burn and CO2 emissions and close to 50% reduction in noise footprint when compared to previous generation aircraft, A320ceo. There is a greater density of 186 seats on the A320neo aircraft resulting lower fuel emissions per seat.
Aer Lingus operates two Airbus A320neo’s with a further two to be delivered in June and October 2023, and two in 2024, increasing its fleet to six units.
